First, this study pointed out the possibility of collaboration between college and community, reflecting lack of awareness of English language teachers toward the non-English speaking community of Japan. Second, this study reported the benefits of focusing on a community resource in a paragraph writing course; namely a positive effect on English writing ability, enhanced understanding of the community, creation of a sense of attachment to the community and creation of further community resources.
